“Tree of kindness” is fun to make and it provides a visual of children’s ideas and acts of kindness and caring. Discuss ways to be kind and caring at home and at school; reading to your mom or dad when they are sick, take diapers for mom or dad when they change the baby, help fold laundry, help set the table, say kind words like thank you and please, etc. It is important to give children words to express their actions of kindness as this builds their vocabulary. You can make a tree of kindness by drawing a tree on a poster board and using small circles children cut out to write down their acts of kindness. The tree will be quite fruitful if you include the families in the activity and ask them to remind their little one of the activity and write down what their child does at home to share in class.
