Teaching Empathy
Using the pen divide the paper plate in to four quarters (draw a line going up and down and sideways to create 4 equal parts). Let the child decorate and color the pieces. Let the child write down words for feelings on each one of the quarters (sad, happy, angry, and excited). Prick a hole in the center of the plate and insert the metal paper fastener. From the construction paper cut out an arrow. Fasten the arrow to the metal fastener. Viola! You have a feeling meter. You and the child can use this meter to communicate feelings. This is a simple and great activity to help children learn to express their feelings.
