I teach the preschoolers about the root system by inserting several stalks of celery in colored water. We usually use several small jars, half full of colored water (use food coloring…red, blue, yellow). Leave celery in the colored water and check on them every day to see their colors change. Talk to the children about the root system and how the roots “suck” the water and nutrients up to the leaves of plants.
